What is Fantom (FTM)?
Fantom is a permissionless, decentralized and open-source smart contract platform for digital assets and Dapps.
Fantom creates a new platform model, using DAG (Directed Acrylic Graph) technology, to solve the blockchain network scaling problems based on the aBFT consensus protocol.
Fantom’s innovationary aBFT consensus protocol, named as Lachesis, allows Fantom to process transactions faster and cheaper than previous technologies, yet still completely secure.
Fantom’s structure
The structure of Fantom consists of Application Layer, OPERA Ware Layer, and OPERA Core
- OPERA Chain: Asynchronous event handling, allowing decentralized applications to process transactions fast with low fees.
- Lachesis Protocol: Consensus Maintenance
- Story Data: Independent management of the data that took place (transactions and smart contracts)

- Speed: Fantom achieves transactions finality in 1 second on average.
- Scalability: Fantom can process thousands of transactions per seconds and can scale to hundreds of nodes.
- Security: Lachesis provides institutional-grade security to distributed networks. Fantom offers absolute finality, which means that transactions can never be reverted like in networks with probabilistic finality.
- Smart contract support: Fantom is fully compatible with Ethereum. Developers can create and deploy smart contracts as they would on Ethereum.
- Consensus-as-a-service: Lachesis can be used to create any kind of private and public distributed ledger, using EVM or Cosmos SDK.

Fantom has developed into the Fantom ecosystem like Binance Smart Chain, Solana but with a smaller scale.
