What is Dogecoin?
Dogecoin (DOGE) is an open source peer-to-peer cryptocurrency, backed by Shiba Inu lovers worldwide. Dogecoin forked from the Litecoin codebase, and its first block was mined in December 2013.
Who created Dogecoin?
As the name suggests, Dogecoin was inspired by the Doge meme that went viral on social networks in 2013.
Billy Markus was the first to come up with the idea of “for fun” cryptocurrencies, arguing that these cryptocurrencies would be easier to attract public attention than Bitcoin. At the same time, Jackson Palmer – an employee at Adobe created the website dogecoin.com. Billy Markus met and discussed with Palmer to jointly create a cryptocurrency called Dogecoin.
Community of Dogecoin
Dogecoin quickly went “viral” on social networking sites and became a cryptocurrency with a market capitalization of several million dollars.
The Dogecoin community is known as a charity that started as a tipping system, allowing users to donate money to content creators. Then in 2014, it fundraised $30,000 Dogecoin to support the Jamaican team participating in the Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia. That same year, Dogecoin raised over $30,000 to drill water wells in Kenya and many other meaningful activities.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has acknowledged Dogecoin as his favorite cryptocurrency.
