What is Moonriver (MOVR)?
Moonriver is an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible blockchain that acts as a parachain on the Kusama network. EVM compatibility allows Moonriver to deploy Ethereum-based applications.
Moonriver allows developers to deploy Solidity smart contracts, Web3 compatible APIs, oracles data feeds before being launched on Polkadot.
Main components in Moonriver
Moonriver includes the following main components:
- Kusama: a public moderation environment for projects launching on Polkadot. Moonriver is the Kusama ecosystem version of Moonbeam (GLMR) in the Polkadot ecosystem.
- Parachains: independent blockchains that can connect to Kusama.
- Crowdloans: a method of fundraising for a parachain slot on the Kusama network. Users temporarily lock KSM tokens in exchange for project rewards.
- Slot Auction: projects that act as a parachain on Kusama need to claim a slot in the parachain auction. Moonriver won the second place slot via crowdloans, thus securing a Kusama parachain for 48 weeks.
MOVR Token
MOVR is the utility and governance token of Moonriver, which has the following functions:
- Transaction fees: paying gas fees and deploying smart contracts.
- Staking: staking MOVR to become a validator of the network and get reward with MOVR.
- Governance: participating in voting for the development of the project.
- Liquidity mining: providing liquidity on DEX exchanges to earn a fraction of trading fees.
